About Me
Welcome! I'm glad you stopped by.
My name is Sydney McDonald and I am a graduate of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Communication with a focus in Multimedia Journalism and Marketing/Marketing Management as my minor. I began my career as a reporter at the Dothan Eagle newspaper where I covered county government, education, community features, and filled in where needed.
I moved to the beautiful state of Colorado, where I worked with Prairie Mountain Media as a reporter for the Broomfield Enterprise. I covered most beats within Broomfield including city and county government, crime, arts and entertainment, features, and more.
I have been published in many different print and online publications, including The Denver Post, Broomfield Enterprise, Yahoo News, U.S. News & World Report, Daily Camera, Opelika-Auburn News, Longmont Times-Call, Dothan Eagle, Greeley Tribune, Loveland Reporter-Herald, The News Courier, Colorado Daily, Colorado Hometown Weekly, and more.
I am currently focusing on my work as a freelancer doing everything from copywriting, email and ad copy, website content, blogs, and pretty much anything in the marketing/communications wheelhouse. I am currently working with a marketing start-up for small businesses aiding the CEO in all communications and PR needs as the business gets started.

Work Experience
The Broomfield Enterprise- Staff Reporter 2021- 2023
I was a staff reporter where I covered city and county government, crime, community events and entertainment, and more.
Dothan Eagle- Staff Reporter 2020- 2021
I was a staff reporter where I cover local education, county government, and other local news. Outside of my beat, I worked on many feature stories about local community members and events.
Due South- Staff Writer 2019- 2020
I was staff writer, working mostly on features and editorials for the student-led magazine on USA's campus.
The Vanguard- Managing Editor 2019- 2020
Starting as a reporter in April of 2019 working on general assignment stories for the student-led campus newspaper, I worked my way into the Managing Editor position in August. I assisted the Editor-In-Chief with managing our staff by assigning stories, editing, and producing content.
The Baldwin Times Newspaper- Intern Writer 2019
I worked as an intern writer covering culture and entertainment stories throughout Baldwin County.
Access Magazine- Intern Writer 2020
I worked as an intern writer working on features and editorials at Mobile Bay's leading women's magazine.
